Electrical CAD

Modern technology advances are becoming increasingly dependent on electrical wiring and electrical components to operate. This innovation is largely in part to electrical drafting designers. Electrical CAD designers work with multiple industries to create advanced blue prints and electrical diagrams that help ensure that the tallest skyscrapers to the smallest smart cars are technologically and electrically sound.

Electrical drafters have a diverse workload ranging from preparing the technical drawings of electrical wiring and electric systems to testing those designs. Designers also create specifications and instructions for installation of electrical equipment like transformers, power lines and any equipment used to relay power from high voltage lines to homes and businesses.

Role in Industries

An electrical engineer has many responsibilities on a construction site. These responsibilities include designing, testing, installing and maintaining large-scale electrical systems that transmit and generate power. When designing projects, electrical engineers typically need the skills to work with computer models in order to have a better idea of what they should design. In addition, electrical engineers may be responsible for calculating the costs of projects and scheduling delivery dates for supplies. Finally, at the end of a project, the electrical engineer is responsible for making sure that all codes are met. This requires thorough knowledge of building codes, and the electrical engineer may be required to teach others how to detect building construction issues.

Employment

The electrical design engineer position is found in a variety of industries; several that include high demand for electrical design engineers include the semiconductor industry and electronics manufacturers. In the electronics manufacturing industry, the electrical design engineer works to develop a new product that takes advantage of electromagnetic principles; they also may seek to improve upon the design of common household devices such as televisions, radios, stereos, and home computing devices. Candidates for this position often need good skills using CAD.
